Pumping Iron Movie Review
In 1977 a bodybuilding documentary was made that would make history with future stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Hulk Lou Ferrigno and a host of others that most of us have never heard of. In the film we follow their journey as they lift weights and train day after day with passion and some light hearted banter but don't let that humour fool you they have probably the largest event in the bodybuilding calendar in their sights. Mr Olympia is the largest and most prestigious of them all and 5 times champ Arnold is preparing to add his 6th to his belt but this time he is up against new-comer rival and friend Lou Ferrigno.
This film was amusing as it portrayed the bodybuilders as gentlemen with a good sense of humour and not just steroid junked drones.
We also see behind the scenes of the gym talking to Arnold and Lou finding out about their mind set and attitude, often having a giggle at Arnie's thoughts on winning the show, and how its more than just about brawn its also about beating your rival mentally. Some say the documentary was scripted as well as setting up the competitors to steal each other's personal belongings whilst messing with each others heads just before they went on stage to pose. Or even Arnie when he was questioned about his friend Franco saying Franco is a child when it comes to competing I am like a father to him Children come to fathers for advice so its not hard for me to give him the wrong advices.
